My Hair Care Routine | How To Style Short Hair

Hey all! I recently cut my hair a few weeks ago for the summer and I thought I would share some tips to styling short hair!

A big difference with short hair is how low-maintenance it becomes to do your hair. Another big thing I've noticed is how little product you need, something I definitely noticed when my hair turned into a greasy mess when I put my usual quantity of hair product that I would put into my almost waist length hair.

I live in a hot climate, where my hair is brutally exposed to UV rays and with my hair care routine, I focus on caring and protecting my hair and to make sure it stays as healthy as possible.

I have straight, thick hair that tends to get too straight, so I always want to add texture so it adds dimension.

Here are the products I use:

Whole Foods Organic Rejuvenating Argan Oil: Argan Oil or Moroccan Oil as it's more commonly known has amazing benefits for hair: it hydrates and contains Vitamin E and natural anti-oxidants to strengthen and enhance the elasticity of the hair.

The difference between Argan Oil and Moroccan Oil is that Moroccan Oil is Argan Oil that is marketed more widely and contains harmful chemicals that will damage your hair later on.

Bumble & Bumble Surf Spray: I love this salt spray since it adds dimension and subtle waves to my hair without weighing it down or making it greasy or crunchy.

SheaMoisture Coconut & Hibiscus Curl & Style Milk: I usually use a leave-in conditioner and randomly picked this up since my usual leave in was sold out and this was on sale. This is a very thick formula and it works well enough, but it's honestly not for me. If I had long hair, I think I would like it better, but with my short hair, it doesn't make that much of a difference.

First, start off with towel dried, damp hair. Looking like a wet poodle is a plus, not necessary a requirement for this tutorial.

I use two pumps of the Argan oil and rub the product between my palms, focusing on the middle to ends of my hair.

Next, I take my leave-in and squeeze out a quarter size dollop of product and run it through my hair.

Feel free to run your fingers through your hair, letting the product really penetrate. I avoid my roots since I have a normal/greasy scalp but if your roots are dry, feel free to apply the products on that area.

Finally, I apply 4 to 5 pumps of the Bumble & Bumble Surf Spray, rub the product between my palms and put it all over. You can spray it directly to the hair, but I find this method allows me more control over product distribution.

I put the product all over, scrunching and shaking my hair with no real rhyme or reason. I always find this part really fun, since I get to just freely touch and play with my hair.

After that, I get a comb and brush all my hair back, smoothing out my hair and making sure the products are evenly distributed.

Combs are great for wet hair since they won't damage the hair follicle while you're brushing it through.

After that, part your hair to whatever part you desire. I usually go with a center part, not to worried if it's perfect or not.

As you can see, my hair is really thick and giving you Rag Doll realness right now so I go over and brush it out, letting my hair air-dry.

That's it! A great advantage to short hair is that it dries super quickly and you can pretty much be out the door.

That's how I style my short hair! I try to be as low maintenance as possible and I hope you found this informative and helpful!
