This #1 New York Times best-selling guide to decluttering your home from Japanese cleaning consultant Marie Kondo takes readers step-by-step through her revolutionary KonMari Method for simplifying, organizing, and storing.

Despite constant efforts to declutter your home, do papers still accumulate like snowdrifts and clothes pile up like a tangled mess of noodles?

Japanese cleaning consultant Marie Kondo takes tidying to a whole new level, promising that if you properly simplify and organize your home once, you’ll never have to do it again. Most methods advocate a room-by-room or little-by-little approach, which doom you to pick away at your piles of stuff forever. The KonMari Method, with its revolutionary category-by-category system, leads to lasting results. In fact, none of Kondo’s clients have lapsed (and she still has a three-month waiting list).

With detailed guidance for determining which items in your house “spark joy” (and which don’t), this international bestseller featuring Tokyo’s newest lifestyle phenomenon will help you clear your clutter and enjoy the unique magic of a tidy home—and the calm, motivated mindset it can inspire.

My Review:

I got recommended this book after a family member read this a few months ago and according to her, it completely changed her life. I've heard this sentiment from a lot of people who've read this book on how to organize and clean out their space.

I'm a very organized person and I believe that your space represents and helps shape your mood and I've heard great things about Marie Kondo, a professional organizer from Japan who developed The KonMari Method, a way to clean out your space.

I found a lot of the advice helpful and agreed with most of it. The objects you choose to surround yourself with do affect your space and shape the energy around you. Only keeping things that bring your joy or serve a purpose is a fantastic mindset to have when it comes to personal belongings and it was one of my favorite parts in her book.

Some of her ideas about folding clothes a certain way because they are 'alive',  and that you have to touch each and every object in order to activate your feelings towards an object were more of the quirky aspects of The KonMari Method that I didn't agree with, but I understood and respected the mindset behind it.

For example, Kondo believes that to clean out your books, you have to put all of your books off the shelf and lay them on the floor and touch each and every one of them to determine if you want to keep them. Have you seen my bookshelf tour?! That would be next to impossible for me.

Overall, this book is really interesting and I did apply most of the advice to my space and it's been really refreshing to clean out my space and get rid of stuff I don't need anymore.

I'm going to be selling a lot of my unworn and gently used items on Depop soon so follow me there and check it out!
